Part 5c: Plan Details
Discuss with your teacher what you are planning. Know that if you are planning to sell a product or service and receive payment, you may have to get authorization from your school of record and from your parent or legal guardian. Your teacher will help guide you in your plan and may ask you to change direction, depending on your goal and plan. In many cases, your best option at this time may be to create a personal website that promotes your skills and strengths. Please use this class as a time to build your skills, knowing that you will have plenty of opportunity in the future to build other types of sites.
If one of your objectives is to gain the trust of others (and this should be one of your key objectives), you do not want to write anything that appears to be brash, arrogant, or self-aggrandizing. Focus on the facts and do so with humility.
A photo of you on this page will let people see what you look like. I wouldn’t recommend including others in the same picture. Dress professionally (don’t be a slob) and have a big smile. You will likely want to create the impression: I like this person! I would like to spend more time with him/her!
People need a way to get a hold of you. You need to think through how you want people to contact you. Don’t put your home number on your site unless you want people calling your house at any hour. Also, be aware that any contact information you have could generate spam to your email account.
I like the Wix contact tool because it’s easy to create and customize.
C) Your site might be built for your relative or friend who has their own business. In that case, you will include the payment details that they give you.
D) Maybe you have signed up as an “affiliate” and when someone buys a product or service at your suggestion, then you’ll get paid. In this case, you don’t actually take payment and you aren’t responsible for the product or service delivery. You have simply made the recommendation and then you collect the commission if the person makes a purchase.
Visitors to your site want to know who is behind the site. They want to know more about you. This page might include a picture of you, a video, or a few paragraphs that are relevant to your objectives.
Products or Services Page
You will have at least one Products or Services page, unless you are just promoting yourself. If you are selling something, you will likely need a Paypal account. This will require your parent’s consent and cooperation. There are several situations that you have to think through carefully and this will require a consultation with your teacher before you proceed. Here are some options:
A) You have a product or service you want to sell. You have to take payment and you have to deliver your product or service.
B)You are promoting some other business’s products or services.
